E-Bikes: Your Eco-friendly Transport for a Greener

Climate change is upon us, and swift action is necessary. One practical method of combating this is by rethinking our methods of travel. This is where electric bikes, or e-bikes, come into play. They are more than just an exciting new gadget; they are a solution to a global problem, helping us lower our carbon emissions.

What's the Issue with Cars?

Our fondness for cars is coming at a high price for our planet. They run on fossil fuels, and each time you start the engine, harmful greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere. These gases are the primary contributors to global warming. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, nearly 29% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 were from transport.

E-Bikes: The Future of Transport

So, how can e-bikes help? It's straightforward: e-bikes run on electricity, not petrol. This means they don't emit any harmful gases while you're breezing down the road. Additionally, the electricity that powers your e-bike can come from clean, renewable sources.

What difference can this make? According to the European Cyclists' Federation, an e-bike only releases around 22 grams of CO2 per kilometre, while a car emits a staggering 271 grams. That's 12 times more!

E-Bikes and City Living

As more of us are residing in cities, e-bikes can play a significant role in making our urban areas cleaner and less congested. They're ideal for those quick trips to work or the local shops, and they don't require much road space.

The Benefits Extend Beyond the Environment

E-bikes don't just benefit the planet; they can also benefit you. Cycling is excellent for your health, and an e-bike can still provide a solid workout. Plus, they're quieter than cars, contributing to less noise pollution. And we can't ignore the cost savings: operating an e-bike is far cheaper than running a car.

In our fight against climate change, e-bikes are more than just a step in the right direction. They're a practical, affordable, and enjoyable way to get about, and they could significantly impact our planet's future. Why not make your next journey a green one with an e-bike? They're available here on our website, ready to help you reduce your carbon emissions and lead a healthier lifestyle.

Bike Size Guides -
How to choose the right frame

Understand Bike Types: Different types of bikes come in different sizes. For example, road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, and BMX bikes have distinct measurements and sizing standards. Ensure you know what type of bike you want first.

Know Your Height and Inseam Length: Your height and inseam length are the two most important measurements when sizing a bike.

Height: Stand barefoot with your back against the wall, and measure your height from the floor to the top of your head.

Inseam: This is the length from your crotch to the floor, again best measured barefoot. This measurement is critical for determining your standover height, or the clearance between you and the top tube of the bike when you stand over it.

Match Your Measurements to a Sizing Chart: Bike manufacturers typically provide sizing charts where you can match your height and inseam to a bike size (usually given in inches or centimeters for road bikes, or as small, medium, large, etc. for mountain bikes).

For road bikes, sizes might be given in centimeters (like 50, 52, 54, etc.) correlating to the length of the seat tube.

A general guide is:

4'11" - 5'3" = 47 - 50cm
5'3" - 5'7" = 51 - 54cm
5'7" - 5'11" = 55 - 58cm
5'11" - 6'2" = 59 - 62cm
6'2" - 6'5" = 63 - 65cm

For mountain bikes, sizes are usually stated as Small, Medium, Large, etc. Each manufacturer will have a chart correlating these sizes to rider height. It's common to see something like:

4'11" - 5'3" = Small
5'3" - 5'7" = Medium
5'7" - 5'11" = Large
5'11" - 6'2" = X Large
6'2" - 6'5" = XX Large

Test Ride (If Possible): Sizing charts provide a good starting point, but there's no substitute for actually riding the bike. During a test ride, check for comfort and ease of control. When you straddle the bike, you should have about 1-2 inches of clearance between your body and the top tube (for road bikes) or more clearance (3-4 inches or more) for mountain bikes. Your arms and shoulders should feel relaxed, not cramped or overstretched when holding the handlebars.

Adjustments: Even after you choose your bike size, there are adjustments you can make to fine-tune the fit. These include adjusting the seat height, the seat fore/aft position, and the handlebar height and reach. You may need the help of a bike shop for these adjustments.

Remember, every person and every bike is unique. The "perfect fit" can depend on many factors, including personal comfort, riding style, body proportions, flexibility, and the specific design of the bike. Always consult with professionals if you're unsure.
